A trip back in time to the 70s

Bell bottoms. Platform shoes. Brightly coloured wallpaper. Saturday Night Fever. Everything was very colourful back then. Anyone leafing through old photo albums can see that: Kodak red meets Fuji blue. The decade with a tremendous variety of new forms of expression. When crazy became the new normal.

But are there really any reasons to take this trip back in time? There’s one reason for sure: Every time you here ABBA’s Dancing Queen, you remember that the 70s were somehow beautiful.

SOS. Money, Money, Money. Fernando. A happy sound with a touch of melancholy. Agnetha and Björn. Benny and Anni-Frid. Two singing angels and two smart guys. Two happy couples in perfect harmony. Discretely sexy, but always far from being offensive.

Even grandmother nodded in approval back then: “Men can wear their hair long, but they have to be well-groomed.”. Benny and Björn were well-groomed. There’s no question about it.

But ABBA is much more than just this colourful, perfect world of yesterday.

“I don’t know if we listened as well as we should,” says English music journalist Chris Charlesworth remembering the release of ‘Dancing Queen’. “We thought: Another ABBA single. It will be number 1 again… But probably nobody listened to it with their headphones and paid attention to how well it was produced!” Ireen Sheer raves: “I would have loved to have such great arrangements back then, too.” And 40 years after “Waterloo”, Peter Urban sums up: “This music is timeless!”

And so sometimes you wish it was back, this beautiful side of the 70s, the ABBA side. Maybe with a different wardrobe, but with the same charm, the same lightness and the same great sound.
